Crossfit, Fitness and Connection…
Most people that know me, know I love working out. Sometimes I have worked out 5 days consecutively and I have to ask myself have I rested this week. At one point I was working out twice a day 3 days a week.
I made a commitment long ago that when the day came that I would be a grandma, I wanted to be fit, healthy and strong. I knew I had to start that moment and that is my underlining Why for working out.
A couple weeks ago when I took a trip to Colorado I had a thought maybe I won’t keep my membership at my Crossfit place. I have everything at my house. And I do use my equipment when I can’t make it to the box. I had the thought and let it sit with me.
I came back home full on busy and didn’t make it to the box the week I returned. Now I’m going on 2 weeks away from the box. While on my vacation and coming back home I was also reflecting a lot about my friendships in my life and what’s important to me.
Ok back to me working out; coming home from my trip the struggle was real getting myself motivated to get out to my garage and it’s not like I took a week off from working out. While in CO I hiked one day, ran two of the days and did strength training one day. When I returned home I did get my fitness in but I really had to push through that feeling of not feeling like it.
Brene Brown’s research shows that “whether you are a man, woman, or child, every one of us has the irreducible need for love and belonging.
“I define connection as the energy that exists between people when they feel seen, heard, and valued; when they can give and receive without judgment; and when they derive sustenance and strength from the relationship.” ― Brené Brown.
We All Desire Connection!
It hit me like a ton of bricks… I got back to my Crossfit box and there were all the amazing beautiful people I love. It filled me up and made me smile working hard with them. Next day we did a team wod. I was with two woman who I love working out with. Watching us and everyone around us working hard felt so fullfling. Later that day we met to celebrate someone’s birthday and it was clear to me it’s not just about fitness and being healthy. It’s about Connection… with each person I’m there with.
It hits at the core of what we all desire… the need we all have… Connection.
So for me personally I can go out to my garage and workout but going to my Crossfit box takes it to a different level… Connecting!
Whether I know them well or I just meet them, there is something special that happens when we are there together working hard! It is a place where you can be you and give your best and those around you let you know… You Got This… You Did Great!
This story is not about health and fitness, this is about Connection.
Where can you connect with someone that will help you reach your goal? Where they can support and encourage you to let your greatness shine through. Where you can feel seen, heard, and valued? Where can you find Connection with people in your life with the things that really matter?
It might feel vulnerable reaching out, trying out something new but that’s where the goodness lies.
My favorite mantra ” I can be brave and afraid at the same time!” So can YOU!
When you finish reading this post and go about your day, I want you to remember this… When you walk into a room, know that YOU are special, know you mean something to this world, your feelings matter, your story matters and I believe in YOU!
